How is a Gospel Magician different to a standard magician?
A Gospel Magician uses the same tricks, props, skills and techniques as normal magicians to entertain their audiences. The main difference however is that a Gospel Magician wont claim to achieve these effects using their own miraculous powers and will attempt to use the tricks to tell a story, ideally about the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Doesn’t the Bible say that magic is evil?
The Bible is very clear, both in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 18: 10-12) and the New Testament (Galatians 5: 19-21) that anyone who practices sorcery or engages in witchcraft is not doing what God commands or desires.
However, Gospel magic is definitely not the same as this and Gospel Magicians are clear that they are not using ‘real’ magic to achieve their amazing feats, rather that they are using simple illusions and tricks, designed to entertain only.
How can I ‘fit’ Gospel magic into my event or service?
A Gospel magic routine can easily be included in all types of events or services, especially as they can be tailored to be as long or as short as required.
Whether as the main ‘talk’, a series of complementary ‘soundbites’, or a full show, a Gospel magic routine can add a change of pace to any event (big or small) and leave your audience with a different and very memorable moment or message to take away with them.
Who is Graham Dowling?
Graham has been a practising amateur magician for over 20 years now and is the current Treasurer of the Harrogate Society of Magicians.
From his early days of performing at kids parties and magic club competitions, Graham now specialises in Gospel magic and storytelling, often producing and performing in larger magic shows (at venues such as the Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough) as well as occasional and regular church events in and around the Harrogate area (e.g. Messy Church).
Graham has a passion for using magic to explore the message of the Gospel and explain hidden truths to audiences of every age and size.
How much does it cost to hire Gospel and Truth Magic?
Currently there is no cost for bringing Gospel and Truth magic to your event, however any contributions towards expenses or donations to Kairos Church are always welcome.
How far will Gospel and Truth Magic travel to?
Generally Graham will only be able to travel to locations in and around the Harrogate and Knaresborough area, however we will consider most locations, depending on the requested dates / timings and Grahams availability.
